CASES welcomes new Division Chair

Following recent open recruitment, congratulations are extended to our new Division Chair who has been appointed by the Human Resources, Remuneration and Appointments Committee, and ratified by the Board. Professor Athanassios (‘Nassos’) Bissas will take up post as incoming Biomechanics and Motor Behaviour Division Chair and Board Director following the 2026 Annual General Meeting, taking over from Dr Andrew Mitchell HonFCASES, who will conclude his second three-year term in November.

Commenting on the appointment, Nassos said: 

”I am honoured to take on the role of Chair of the Biomechanics and Motor Behaviour Division and very grateful to Dr Andrew Mitchell HonFCASES for his leadership of the Division over the past six years and for his support during my time as Deputy Chair. 

"The Division has a proud history, having been led and served by many eminent biomechanics scholars, and has played an important role in the education and professional development of successive generations of biomechanists in the UK and internationally. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to build on that legacy at a time when rapid technological developments are pushing the boundaries of our discipline. 

"I look forward to working with the Division and wider CASES community to embrace these opportunities while ensuring that scientific integrity, rigorous evaluation and evidence-based practice remain at the heart of biomechanics.”

The Board thanks Dr Andrew Mitchell HonFCASES for his service and hard work for the Association over the last six years and welcomes Nassos to this new role from November 2026.
