Congratulations to our newest Fellows
7th October 2026

In August 2026, CASES congratulated seven professional members as they were awarded CASES Fellowship.
CASES Fellowship is considered an accolade that individuals aspire to and an honour that people are proud of and is valued. For 'FCASES' to be placed after someone's name, it should denote a passion and commitment to CASES and Sport and Exercise Sciences. It is expected that CASES Fellows will act as leaders and ambassadors for the Association.
Professor Zoe Knowles FCASES, Chair of CASES said, "As Chair of the Chartered Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences I am delighted to welcome our newest Fellows. The award is a professional recognition for experienced practitioners who have demonstrated high standards of expertise, leadership, and contribution to the field."
Here is an introduction to the newly awarded Fellows:

Professor Mark Faghy FCASES
Mark is Professor of Clinical Exercise Science at Loughborough University. He has been an active member of CASES since 2012 and an accredited member since 2018. He has served as Vice-Chair of the Physiology and Nutrition Division, contributed to the COVID-19 Interest Group and Policy and Advocacy Advisory Group, and supported CASES through conference presentations, position statements, mentoring, supervision, and accreditation review activities.
His research and professional practice have advanced understanding of exercise physiology in health and disease, particularly within rehabilitation and long-term conditions. Through leadership, research, education, and practitioner development, he has contributed to raising the profile and impact of sport and exercise science across healthcare, policy, and performance settings

Dr Kotryna Lewis FCASES
Kotryna is a Senior Lecturer at The University of Sydney, a CASES-accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Psychology Support), and a Registered Psychologist (Australia). Her expertise lies within Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology. Kotryna served as the first chair of the CASES Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Advisory Group (EDI AG) from 2021to 2026.
During this time, Kotryna proactively connected with CASES leaders to facilitate a collegiate approach to EDI across CASES and shared responsibility with the EDI AG members. National and international industry partners recognised CASES as a leader in the sport and exercise science community due to its diversity monitoring practices, highlighting existing gaps and informing future opportunities. EDI is now embedded across CASES, where CASES members and leaders regularly seek advice and guidance.

Professor Daniel Madigan FCASES
Daniel is Professor of Sport and Health Psychology at York St John University, UK. His research focuses on the predictors, consequences, and prevention of burnout across a range of achievement contexts. He has published extensively in this area, including authoring the first book dedicated specifically to athlete burnout.
Daniel is a CASES-accredited Sport and Exercise Scientist (Research) and has made sustained contributions to the Association through research, knowledge dissemination, and the development of early career researchers. He has contributed multiple expert statements to The Sport and Exercise Scientist and served on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Sports Sciences, CASES’s flagship journal. His work has helped advance the understanding, dissemination, and application of sport and exercise science nationally and internationally.

Dr James Malone FCASES
James is the Founder of the Football Performance Network, an international professional community supporting physical performance coaches, sport scientists and practitioners working in football. He is also a Visiting Researcher at the University of Southern Denmark and has previously held performance roles in professional football and academia.
James has contributed to CASES through committee service, conference presentations, supervision of Sport and Exercise Scientist accreditation candidates, peer review activities and publications. His work focuses on translating research into practice, particularly within football performance, athlete monitoring, training load and physical preparation. Through his research, education and mentorship, he continues to support the development of practitioners and advance evidence-informed practice across the sport and exercise science profession.

Dr Clare Pheasey FCASES
Clare is Director of the Institute of Sport at Keele University. She began her journey with the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences (BASES), now CASES, in 1993 as an undergraduate student, initially joining to present her dissertation at the BASES Conference in Manchester. What started as an opportunity to share her undergraduate research evolved into a lifelong commitment to the sport and exercise science profession. Over more than three decades, she has built a career in applied sport science, supporting athletes in achieving their performance goals while also helping to educate and inspire future generations of sport and exercise scientists. Following her recent reaccreditation, Dr Pheasey has maintained physiology support accreditation for 31 years and has held accreditation in pedagogy since the scheme's introduction, reflecting her enduring dedication to professional excellence and lifelong learning.
Passionate about athlete development, applied physiology and education, she takes immense satisfaction in helping individuals realise their potential, whether on the field of play or in the classroom. She is particularly proud of the many graduates who have gone on to make significant contributions to the profession. Dr Pheasey regards the achievements of the athletes, practitioners and students she has supported as her most meaningful legacy, valuing their successes above any qualification, award or professional title she has earned herself.

Dr Georgina Stebbings FCASES
Georgina is Head of the School of Sport and Exercise Sciences and Reader in Sport and Exercise Physiology at Manchester Metropolitan University. An accredited CASES member since 2015, she has served for six years as Convenor of the Molecular Exercise Physiology Special Interest Group and as an accreditation supervisor.
She has contributed to CASES conferences as local organiser for both the 2026 Annual Conference and 2024 Student Conference, and has led CASES re-endorsement of programmes within Manchester Metropolitan’s undergraduate portfolio. Her research spans exercise genomics, female athlete performance, and eligibility for women’s sport, translating evidence into practice through collaborations with sporting organisations, governing bodies and policymakers. In this field, she co-authored CASES Expert Statements on eligibility for sex categories in sport.

Dr Ash Willmott FCASES
Ash is an Associate Professor at Anglia Ruskin University and has provided long‑standing, sector‑shaping service to CASES since 2012. He leads national climate and sustainability initiatives as Chair of the Climate Action and Sustainability Advisory Group and the Environmental Extremes Special Interest Group, embedding environmental extremes expertise across sport and exercise science.
As a dedicated CASES Supervisor, Lab Director and Outreach Hub Lead, he has strengthened CASES visibility, engagement and student pathways, alongside contributing to CASES Student Conference organisation. He supports accreditation reviewing, supervises probationary scientists, shapes sustainability‑focused awards, and advances CASES‑aligned scholarship through peer‑reviewed and TSES publications. He represents CASES at major events and supports student development through conference attendance, mentorship and applied opportunities. Alongside receiving CASES Volunteer of the Year (2025), his work enhances professional standards, environmental extremes awareness, applied practice and community growth across the SES sector.
