Expressions of interest sought for CASES SEPAR External Examiner roles

31st March 2026

To meet the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) requirements for quality assurance monitoring, there needs to be two external examiners appointed to the Sports and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route (SEPAR) Advisory Group. The current External Examiners have concluded their terms on the SEPAR Advisory Group.

The external examiners will need to hold registration as Practitioner Psychologists with the HCPC and be prepared to serve for an appointment period of four years (where there will be a requirement to submit one annual report). It is preferred that the external examiner team will comprise one individual who typically fulfils an academic-practitioner role, with another who has an independent/self-employed practitioner role.

Main duties of the role:

  • Review and monitor all aspects associated with quality assurance (e.g., SEPAR documentation, provision of candidate feedback)
  • Review and monitor discipline needs for ensuring alignment to the HCPC Standards of Education and Training, and Standards of Proficiency
  • Systematically determine whether the service meets members and end users needs and expectations
  • Maintain and develop the reputation via engagement in marketing and communications for the SEPAR, and the broader role of CASES to wider society
  • Support the development of the HCPC monitoring documentation
  • Monitor Equal Opportunities data and address arising issues where appropriate
  • Attend two SEPAR Advisory Group Decision meetings a year
  • Attend four SEPAR Advisory Group Sub meetings

The first review will be required in July 2026 in readiness for the SEPAR Advisory Group Decision meeting on Friday 31 July 2026.

You can find the SEPAR Advisory Group terms of reference in Appendix AG8 and the Psychology Division Committee terms of reference in Appendix SC4 here.

The appointment of all roles will be via a formal, open and transparent recruitment process, with the aim of attracting the widest range of the most suitable talent. At CASES, we are committed to Fairness, Professionalism, Honesty, Responsibility and Excellence. We strive to improve our ways of working to be more inclusive and diverse, to accelerate our impact on society and live up to our Values. We acknowledge that we lack representation from various underrepresented groups and therefore strongly encourage applications that will amplify the voices of people with a disability, those from culturally and ethnically diverse backgrounds, women or gender diverse people in STEMM and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Please notify the Chief Executive Officer (iwilson@cases.org.uk) if you require reasonable adjustments throughout the application process.

If any prospective applicant would like a confidential chat about the role, please contact Dr Rob Morris FCASES, Chair of the CASES SEPAR Advisory Group (robert.morris@stir.ac.uk) or Dr Trish Jackman, Chair of the CASES Psychology Division (pjackman@lincoln.ac.uk)

To apply for this vacancy, please submit a 250-word expression of interest summarising your interest and expertise in the area. Please email this to iwilson@cases.org.uk by noon on Monday 27 April 2026. Please mark this email as confidential and within the subject header, please include ‘External Examiner for SEPAR Advisory Group and Psychology Division Committee'.
