GetPRO Grassroots Sports Nutrition Grant - applications open

The GetPRO Professional Grassroots Sports Nutrition Grant is hosted and operated by The Nutrition Society and funded by Danone, to support the provision of nutrition support to grassroots athletes or clubs by early career sports nutritionists.

We're delighted to let members know that applications are now open for the 2026 Grassroots Sports Nutrition Grant Programme.

Following another successful year supporting early career sports nutritionists to make a real difference in grassroots sport, The Nutrition Society and Danone are once again offering grants to help bring evidence-based nutrition support to community clubs across the UK.

To support this year's launch, we've also published the Grassroots Sports Nutrition Report 2026, bringing together insights from research involving 2,000 people across the UK. The report explores the current state of sports nutrition in grassroots sport, examining the gap between awareness and access, the barriers clubs face in accessing specialist support, and the opportunities to improve nutrition knowledge and support across community sport. It also highlights how initiatives like the GetPRO Professional Grassroots Grant can help turn these insights into meaningful action.

Some of the key findings include:

  • 77% do not turn to a qualified sports nutritionist for sports nutrition advice.
  • 85% say there is a significant gap between elite and grassroots sport when it comes to nutrition knowledge and support.
  • 34% identified gaps in education as a barrier to implementing effective nutrition practice.
  • 47% identify cost and budget constraints as one of the biggest barriers to accessing sports nutrition.
  • 29% highlight limited access to qualified practitioners as a key barrier to accessing sports nutrition.
