CASES Fellow Spotlight: Dr Robert Morris
6th May 2026

As part of our Fellows Spotlight Series, this week we introduce Dr Robert Morris FCASES.
Shaping the Future of Sport Psychology Through Leadership and Transition
As Associate Professor of Sport Psychology and Deputy Head of the Division of Sport at the University of Stirling, Dr Robert Morris FCASES brings a distinctive blend of academic rigour, applied practice, and sector wide leadership. Awarded Fellowship in 2024, he views the recognition through a lens of responsibility, “My Fellowship represents trust and responsibility… recognition from peers that my work has contributed meaningfully to the profession.”
For Robert, Fellowship isn’t an end point, it’s a platform. “I see Fellowship less as an endpoint and more as a platform from which to continue supporting CASES, practitioners, and the evolving needs of sport and exercise psychology.”
A Career Focused on People, Progression, and Impact
Robert’s work sits at the heart of some of the profession’s most important spaces, talent development environments, career transitions, and applied sport psychology. His proudest achievements centre on developing others, “Seeing trainees qualify and progress into confident practitioners… watching programmes I’ve led grow and thrive.”

His leadership as Chair of the CASES Sport and Exercise Psychology Accreditation Route Advisory Group highlights his influence on national standards and pathways, shaping the future of the profession from within.
Navigating Life’s Transitions, Professional and Personal
Robert is open about the complexities of a multi-faceted career, “I’ve navigated research, teaching, leadership, and applied practice across multiple sectors.”
Transitions are not just his area of expertise but a recurring theme in his own journey, including becoming a parent, a change he describes as both challenging and deeply meaningful.
His reflective nature underpins his professional philosophy, “I’ve learned to approach challenge reflectively, to seek strong professional networks, and to remain values led.”
Building Expertise That Moves Between Theory and Practice
Across elite sport environments, programme design, and organisational consultancy, Robert is committed to creating work that is “ethical, evidence based, and contextually sensitive.” His approach highlights the importance of scientific integrity balanced with real world understanding.
His advice to early career practitioners reflects this ethos, “Be patient, curious, and reflective… credibility is earned over time through consistency and integrity.”
Life Beyond Work
Away from academia and applied practice, Robert enjoys badminton, golf, and following elite sport, especially Scottish icons like Sir Chris Hoy and Sir Alex Ferguson, both of whom make his dream dinner guest list. Family life, however, now sits firmly at the centre: “Outside of work, my time is largely shaped by family life, particularly since becoming a parent.”
A Thoughtful Voice for a Growing Profession
Robert’s Fellowship recognises his thoughtful leadership, his contribution to accreditation pathways, and his commitment to shaping the profession from the inside out. As sport and exercise psychology continues to evolve, his influence, grounded in integrity, curiosity, and a deep understanding of human development will remain invaluable.
